The benefits of regular dental check-ups

Regular check-ups provide the opportunity for you to learn more about your oral health and how it impacts your overall health. At your check-up, you will get answers to your questions about dental disease and treatment, and you will receive personalised oral hygiene recommendations. Your dentist will also maintain a record of your dental health and keep you updated on changes and trends.

What happens in a dental check-up?

Do you have a specific dental health concern?

Are you suffering from a toothache?

Or do you simply feel that you are due for a check-up?

Whatever your needs may be, you can count on our team to help you understand your dental health and treatment options with a comprehensive dental examination.

Our specialist dental practice offers you a complete and convenient range of dental services in each of our four practice locations. You can start your treatment journey in one place and keep it there without having to visit multiple care providers.

And like every other journey to a healthier and more beautiful smile, yours will begin with a dental health check-up.

What is included in your dental check-up?

We will address your concerns

Your safety and satisfaction are our top priorities. The very first thing your dentist will address is whatever concerns you the most.

The dentist will examine your teeth and gums

After addressing your primary concern, your dentist will thoroughly examine your mouth to ensure that your teeth and gums are in good health. Your examination will likely include some dental X-rays and other diagnostic imaging. If your dentist notices any signs of potential trouble, then we will let you know and inform you of the steps you can take.

The dentist will check your mouth for signs of oral cancer

An oral cancer screening is an extremely important part of your dental examination. Oral cancer can be very serious, but it is easy to treat as long as it is caught early. During your check-up, your dentist will carefully look for signs of unusual growth or injury in the soft tissues of your lips, cheeks, tongue, mouth, gums, neck and palate.

You will receive personalised oral hygiene advice and recommendations

By maintaining an excellent oral hygiene routine, you can avoid developing painful and costly dental issues. Our team will recommend a regimen that is tailored to your unique needs.

Questions about your treatment journey

  • How often should I have a dental check-up?

You should have your teeth examined by a dentist at least once per year. However, if you have a certain medical or dental condition (such as diabetes or gum disease), we may advise you to visit a dentist more often to stay on top of your oral health.

  • Will I have dental treatment done on the same day as my check-up?

In most cases, we will have to schedule your treatment for a separate appointment. If you would like to begin any needed treatment on the same day as your check-up, please let us know before your appointment and we will do our best to accommodate.

  • Are dental X-rays safe?

Modern dental X-ray technology is perfectly safe. We use digital X-ray equipment in our practices and this cuts down on the amount of radiation that patients are exposed to. Additionally, we take other precautions to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure.

  • Do you offer NHS dental check-ups?

Yes, NHS dental services are available at our practice. Please see our page on NHS treatments to learn more.

  • What happens next after getting a check-up?

After your examination, the dentist will let you know which treatment, if any, is indicated. Next, our treatment coordinator will meet with you to explain the treatment further, answer your questions and provide you with a quote. If you are ready to proceed, the treatment coordinator will assist you in scheduling your care with the dentist.
